What are Senior Forums or Fiftyplus Forums as they are now being known?

Fiftyplus Forums are local independent ACTION groups run by people over the age of 50. They provide opportunities for people to have their say on issues that concern them and look at constructive ways to combat difficulties; provide information about local services and developments; provide representatives to attend key partnership and planning meetings; run specific projects to meet local needs; work together with other Dorset Forums and local organisations to improve the quality of life for the over 50s; provide a social network and have FUN!

How many Fiftyplus Forums are there in Dorset and where are they?

There are 17 Fiftyplus Forums located in Dorset. They work together as the Dorset Association of Senior Forums on key issues across Dorset holding conferences and campaigns. Dorset Forums have a combined membership/contacts of 3,000 over 50s. The South West Seniors Network provides a network for over 50 Forums in the South West.

Support to existing Fiftyplus Forums in their development

Looks out for opportunities for Fiftyplus Forums to influence decision makers
Identifies funding sources and assists with funding applications
Provides a link to Fiftyplus Forums across Dorset for mutual support, sharing information and accessing training opportunities
Keeps an overview of Fiftyplus Forum development in Dorset
Encourages development of a county structure in other counties
Encourages Forums to work together to give a Louder Voice!
