Sturminster Newton Introduction
Sturminster Newton and District Over 50s Forum is an emerging independent action group for people over the age of 50 living in Sturminster Newton and the surrounding parishes. It has no political connections but aims to give local people the opportunity to express their views on both local and national issues of concern in order to get their voices heard! It will represent it’s members at appropriate planning and consultation groups in Dorset.
A steering group has established the foundations of the Forum and now requires local older people to launch and manage the Forum. The Forum will launch on Saturday, 10th April at the Exchange in Sturminster Newton. If you wish to get involved in the development of this new Forum, or find out more information, please contact Doug Moore from the Steering Group on 01258 472184 or e-mail Hilary Foggo. Support will be provided from the Dorset Association of Senior Forums. This new Forum will be one of 16 such Fiftyplus Forums in Dorset. Forums in other districts have successfully campaigned for local service changes, such as improved bus routes. Collectively, Forums have contributed to the major plans for Dorset such as the plans for Extra Care housing, Home Improvement Agencies and Transport.
Our Aims:
- To benefit residents over the age of 50 years living in Sturminster Newton and the surrounding parishes.
- To promote involvement, empowerment and improvement of quality of life.
- To provide a regular open forum to consider issues of concern and discuss what can be done about them.
- To present the collective views of the membership to influence decision makers.
- To provide current information from local and national service providers.
- To encourage social contact through the forum.
