Dorset's Living Memories - the people's project

This project is kindly supported by BT and POPP

The aim of this project is to create an on-line archive of Dorset from the memories and reminiscences of the people who spent their childhood, working life and even their retirement in Dorset.

These web pages spans a time frame from the beginning of the 20th Century to the present day and is illustrated with never before seen photographs of the county and its people. There is an opportunity, through this website, for anyone to join in and make these pages the most comprehensive record of the recent history of our county not written by historians.

Anyone over 50 years can take part. We hope that future generations will benefit by knowing more about their town and that this website will be a lasting legacy for Dorset and its people with the life of the past there for the future.

Please use the links above or on the left (under Memories) to find all the stories collected so far. More are being added all the time. If you would like to join in to add your memories and pictures or comment on any of the stories, please email us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. These stories and pictures are submitted to the Age Concern Dorchester by the contributors and have been added with their permission. They all fully understand the site’s terms and conditions.

Please see the Terms and Privacy for more details.
