Tolpuddle Martyrs 100th Anniversary

August 1934 saw the 100th Anniversary of the Tolpuddle Martyrs.
Dorchester was full of people from the Trade Unions and each evening there was a play in the Corn Exchange re-enacting the events.

This picture was taken at school when I was 9.
It was a colour photo which was very rare then.
The school was in Icen Way, but is no longer there.
It was taken in 1937, when the king and queen were being crowned.
We were all dressed up for the Coronation.
I think my mum cut my hair, we didn’t go to the hairdressers in those days.
There were lots of things going on in the town.
