Leigh through the years

I was born in a little hamlet near Chetnole in 1929 where my father was a dairy farmer. We moved when I was 5 years old and went to Leigh where I have lived ever since. I left school at 14 to help my father on the farm and worked there for a long time.

Lucky escape at Charmouth

I was able to be present very shortly after the crash in 1983 when a very heavy double lorry got out of control coming down from Thistlegate and crashed into the first house in the village which is Brackendale.

I  was born in 1910 just before the First World War There were no cars, just horses, and one of my first memories is of troops with horses going past the house, making their way to Weymouth or Bristol.

I lived in Sutton Poyntz from the age of 3 months. My mother had died shortly after I was born and my father brought me to live with his grandmother. I lived at “The Laurels” in Plaisters Lane. I attended St. Andrew’s School.
