Feet in straw boxes

Joyce Ray  writes...

After school I went to work in my Dad’s butcher’s Shop in North Square.

It was very cold in the shop and there was no glass in the windows, just shutters. We sat with our feet in a box of straw to keep warm.  The market was opposite and if the meat didn’t sell in the shop we had to go out and sell it on a stall in the market.
