Age Concern Dorchester - Supporting

We are dependent on Donations and Volunteers for all our services. Are you able to contribute in any way? The ways in which you can volunteer are explained here.

Dementia Matters

AlzheimersLogoThe term 'dementia' is used to describe the symptoms that occur when the brain is affected by specific diseases and conditions, including Alzheimer's disease, stroke and many other rarer conditions. Symptoms of dementia include loss of memory, confusion and problems with speech and understanding.

Alzheimer’s Society produces a really useful factsheet that gives an overview of dementia, What is Dementia?

We have developed this internet resource in partnership with the Alzheimer’s Society to provide information to individuals, carers and professionals about the support, information and activities that there are available in Dorchester and the surrounding area relating to dementia. Sumary of local Dementia resources follows.

Volunteers

volunteer Want a rewarding and enjoyable activity during your spare time?

Then work as a volunteer for Age Concern Dorchester.

Many people have volunteered with Age Concern Dorchester over the 50 years we have been in existence. Many of these volunteers are aged 50 years and over, yet despite this we still need more people to offer us their time, skills, knowledge and experience to help support our work.

Everyone gets a different sort of buzz from volunteering and some of the most popular reasons to join us are for you to gain new skills, share your knowledge and skills, enjoy and at the same time give something back to the community.

If you feel that you can give some time, even only a little to help others then we would like to hear from you. Previous experience is not necessary.

We offer support and training which provides an opportunity to learn about and understand older people's needs, develop listening skills and to meet other volunteers.

All prospective volunteers are required (by law) to complete an application form and provide references, which are taken up by the organisation including a criminal record bureau (CRB) check. This is normal procedure for this type of work.

Please Volunteer download pack (contains two PDF documents).

Your contact for any enquiries is the main Office.
